Karlsruhe kick-off

GreenDEMO kicks off with consortium meeting in Karlsruhe

Earlier this month, the GreenDEMO project officially launched with its first consortium meeting in Karlsruhe, Germany. The Horizon Europe project brings together partners from eight European cities, five research institutions, and one city network to explore how local governments can lead fair and effective green transitions through organisational innovation and renewed democratic trust.

  • Hosted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, the three-day meeting set the stage for four years of collaboration (2023–2027). Participants:
  • Co-designed workplans for innovation actions to be piloted in the project’s eight cities.
  • Connected academic insights with on-the-ground experiences from municipalities.
  • Exchanged on pressing local challenges such as citizen trust, administrative capacity, and ambitious climate goals.
  • Strengthened team spirit through creative formats, including land art, music, cooking, and reflection.
  • Rooted in participatory action research, GreenDEMO aims to reimagine how public administrations can adapt – and lead – in times of climate urgency and democratic change.

The meeting in Karlsruhe marks the first step in a joint journey of experimentation and learning, supported by the energy, insight, and creativity of all project partners.
